Annual General Meeting

11am Sunday 12 March 2023 at PAC

Why do we have an AGM?

This is an opportunity for the whole Church family to come together to hear the ‘bigger picture’ of what’s been happening in our wider Church over the year. We ‘review’ Church activities and ministries. We also hear how we are operating financially  - our Church is responsible to fully fund all activities and ministries, pay all staff and utilities and fulfil statutory requirements in an open and transparent manner. Our working Budget for the year is also detailed, so we know in advance what we need to be aiming for in support of our ministries.

What else happens at the AGM?

We have the opportunity to elect Office Bearers (Parish Council) who assist the Senior Minister in fulfilling our ministry goals for the year. They are the people who are responsible for maintaining our buildings and ensuring all statutory and financial obligations are fulfilled in a timely and above-board manner.  There are 2 categories of people on our Parish Council

  • Wardens who are legally accountable ‘directors’ of the Church

  • Parish Councillors who assist them carry out their extensive duties

We also elect other Office Bearers to elect at our AGM:

  • Synod Representatives who serve for 3 years as our representatives at our Sydney Anglican synod (which is like the AGM for our 270 Anglican churches in the Sydney region)

  • Parish Nominators who search for a new senior minister, if that need arises during the year

  • Jubilee Fellowship Committee who decide on a recipient for our Moore College bursary gift each year

We also have a paid, part-time Treasurer to assist in the extensive accounting needs of a not-for-profit organisation such as we are.

Who should attend the AGM?

We believe, that as many as possible of our Church family should be at the AGM to show a real interest in the running and decision-making of our Church. However, legally there are some conditions of who can speak and vote at the AGM - to participate in the meeting, you will need to be 18 years of age or older; you must have been Baptised (in any Christian Church); and you must be a ‘regular’ member (ie: have attended PAC Services regularly for at least 3 months). In addition, you must not also be a current member of another Anglican Church, or have participated in an AGM at another Anglican Church within the last 3 months.

Who is currently on our Parish Council?

We have been blessed with a godly and hard-working team on our Parish Council this year. They are:

Wardens

  • Greg Suttle

  • Catherine Waterworth

  • David Wilkes

Councillors

  • Judi Mann

  • Paul Curtis

  • Claire Ellery

  • Ben Pringle

  • Mark Waterworth

  • Wendy Waterworth (Treasurer)

  • Brian West

  • Greg Young

Any person you would like to see elected to Parish Council for 2023 will need to be Nominated, with their consent.

How can I nominate someone to stand for election?

To streamline the running of our AGM, we use a pre-nomination system to nominate Wardens and Councillors to be voted on to Parish Council. Nomination forms are available at church or for download with the below buttons. Read the form carefully – if you are the person nominating a candidate you fill out your name and the name of the person you are Nominating for the position. Then get someone to Second your nomination. The Candidate you have nominated then must also sign the declaration on the bottom of the form.

NB: your Nomination will only be valid if you and the Seconder are present at the AGM. If the Candidate cannot be present, he/she can still be nominated – as long as they have signed the declaration on the form in agreement of accepting nomination.

The person Nominated must be 18 years of age (or older) and cannot have been the object of bankruptcy proceedings. A person nominated for position of Warden, cannot be an employee of PAC or the spouse of ordained ministry staff. All candidates must declare that they are not Prohibited Persons under the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act (2012).
